A convicted armed robber free on bond is back in jail tonight after he ran from the driver’s seat of a carjacked sedan at an apartment complex on Welshwood Drive and led Violent Crimes detectives on a brief foot chase. Manolito Jemison, 27, was carrying a loaded semi-automatic pistol as he was taken into custody this afternoon. The carjacked 2007 Lincoln sedan he was driving was taken on Sunday.
This is the second time Violent Crimes detectives have encountered Jemison in recent months. He was arrested in October 2023 for being the driver of a carjacked Volkswagen. A loaded pistol was found under the front passenger seat of that vehicle. Jemison was charged then with vehicle theft and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. The vehicle theft charge was dismissed in January. He was free on bond on the gun charge at the time of today’s arrest. He was also free on bond in connection with a December arrest on charges of domestic assault and resisting arrest.
Jemison was convicted on two counts of armed robbery in December 2016 and received an 8-year sentence. He was convicted of vehicle theft in January 2018 and received a 2-year sentence.
He is being held tonight in lieu of $88,000 bond on charges of unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon, contempt of court for violating bond conditions, tampering with evidence for trying to destroy a cell phone, resisting arrest, evading arrest, and drug possession. An arrest warrant for robbery/carjacking is forthcoming. Jemison is also under active investigation in regard to other recent robbery cases.
