Coordinated police work led to Monday night’s arrest of carjacking suspect Curon Claybrooks, 14.
North Precinct officers quickly responded at 6:40 p.m. to the 1600 block of 7th Avenue North after a victim reported that his 2022 blue Ford F-150 Raptor pick up truck had been stolen at gunpoint. He was able to track his vehicle using his cell phone and Ford App. A police helicopter crew coordinated with detectives who were able to locate the vehicle on Whites Creek Pike where spike strips were successfully deployed.
Two individuals fled into a nearby wooded area. Canine Officer Austin Bass and his partner Otto located Claybrooks who was taken into custody. The second young man, who had been Claybrooks’ passenger, is not believed to have been involved in the robbery. He was released to a parent.
