The driver of an Infiniti QX5 died last night after crashing into a downed tree at a high rate of speed on a closed portion of Briley Parkway near Currey Road. The preliminary investigation indicates a wrecker was attempting to repossess the Infiniti when it sped off, and fled from two separate traffic stop attempts on Murfreesboro Pike.
A short time later the Infiniti struck a tree and a passenger got out before the Infiniti fled the crash.
Meantime, officers were working a separate crash on Briley Parkway involving two vehicles that had crashed into each other and a fallen tree. The southbound lanes were shut down while work was being done to remove the tree from the roadway.
The Infiniti went around officers and entered the closed portion of Briley Parkway, striking the tree. The driver, tentatively identified as a 51-year-old Nashville woman, died at the scene.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will work to positively identify her.
