Specialized Investigations Division TITANS detectives late this afternoon arrested convicted felon Thomas D. Pointer, 26, for the carjacking/shooting of a 33-year-old Nashville man this morning near the intersection of E. Old Hickory Boulevard and Gallatin Pike.
The victim was brought to Skyline Medical Center shortly before noon by private vehicle suffering from a serious gunshot wound to his right leg. During the investigation Violent Crimes Division detectives learned that an Apple Air Tag was inside the victim’s 2019 model Nissan Versa. Using tracking technology, the car determined to have stopped on Frankfort Drive in Hermitage, where Pointer interacted with members of his family. The vehicle continued on the move and was left by Pointer late this afternoon on Oakland Acres Drive. TITANS detectives conducting surveillance in that area spotted Pointer walking on Saunders Avenue toward W. Due West Avenue. They approached Pointer and took him into custody without incident. He was armed with two pistols, and was carrying 228 oxycodone pills.
At the time of today’s arrest, Pointer was free on $2,500 bond for an unlawful gun possession arrest last October. Pointer was convicted of robbery and felony evading arrest in November 2019 and received a 5-and-a-half year sentence.
He is jailed tonight on charges of especially aggravated robbery, felony drug possession, two counts of unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon, and unlawful gun possession during the commission of a dangerous felony. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $95,000.
