Sex Crimes detectives are working to identify and locate the man who attacked a 25-year-old woman Sunday evening as she ran on the Cumberland River Greenway near the intersection of 2nd Avenue North and Cement Plant Road.
As she ran, the victim saw the assailant and thought he was trying to talk with her, so she stopped. He then grabbed her and put her into a chokehold. He threw her into a fence, which caused her to fall to the ground. He got on top of her and held her down before a witness intervened and pulled him away. The attacker then fled the area.
He is described as a middle-aged white man with facial hair and tan skin who was last seen wearing blue jeans and dark slipper type shoes. Prior to the attack, he was seen walking away from a nearby homeless camp. Anyone recognizing the man from the attached surveillance photos is asked to contact the Department of Emergency Communications at 615-862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
