Community Crimes Investigations detectives are working to identify the occupants of a red/maroon car believed to be connected to recent vandalism at multiple WeGo bus shelters.
Just before midnight Saturday, shots were reported at a bus stop in the 600 block of Gallatin Pike South. According to witnesses, shots (possibly from a pellet gun) were fired from the car, striking and shattering the glass at the bus shelter.
As many as 50 WeGo bus shelters have been damaged over the last three weeks, including 20 this past weekend. The glass enclosures around the stops were either partially or totally shattered.
The majority of the vandalism has occurred along Gallatin Pike in East Nashville and 12th Avenue South in Edgehill. Additional vandalized shelters have been reported in downtown, Madison, Germantown, West End Avenue, and South Nashville.
The damaged bus shelters have either been repaired or will be soon. Additional police patrols will be providing an extra presence along bus route corridors. Anyone with information about the car and its occupants or the vandalism is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
