Update: The Honda Accord driver killed in Saturday morning’s head-on crash on Antioch Pike has been identified as Jhon Steve Matute Vasquez, 22, of Nashville.
A driver has died following Saturday’s 3:30 a.m. head-on crash on Antioch Pike at the overpass of I-24. The preliminary investigation indicates a Honda Accord was traveling southeast towards Harding Lane at a high rate of speed when it crossed over the center line and struck a Ford Explorer in the opposite lane.
The unidentified driver of the Honda was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died. The Medical Examiner’s Office will work to identify him.
Toxicology testing will be conducted to determine whether impairment was a factor in this fatal crash.
The driver of the Ford, Robert Baldwin, 44, and his passenger were also transported to Vanderbilt with non-life threatening injuries. Baldwin showed no signs of impairment at the scene.
Baldwin had three outstanding warrants at the time of the crash. Upon his release from the hospital, he will be booked with additional charges for driving on a revoked license and financial responsibility.
