Coordination between a carjacking victim, MNPD robbery detectives and Montgomery County authorities led to Tuesday’s apprehension of a 22-year-old Clarksville man who targeted the victim in a parking garage of Green Hills Mall.
The suspected carjacker, who refused to speak to officers or give his identifying information after his arrest by Clarksville Police, has now been identified as Richmond F. Cheah. A Davidson County arrest warrant charging Cheah with aggravated robbery was issued today. He will be returned from Clarksville in the near future.
The investigation shows that Cheah followed the 62-year-old female victim into the mall from the parking garage and then appeared to wait around for her. About 90 minutes later, Cheah is seen walking into the parking garage, followed by the victim. She reported that as she approached her Mercedes sedan, Cheah walked up to her, showed her a pistol he was carrying, and demanded her keys and purse. She complied out of fear. Cheah then drove off in the car. Detectives were able to use tracking technology to see that the car had been driven to Clarksville. They notified Clarksville Police officers, who apprehended Cheah after a pursuit.
