This afternoon Clifford Jones Jr., 35, of Bell Road, surrendered on an outstanding homicide warrant for last Monday’s fatal physical assault of James Sutton on South 5th and Russell Streets. Jones was identified as the suspect through the course of the investigation, which was corroborated after detectives found nearby surveillance footage of him visiting an auto store wearing the same clothing prior to the homicide.
Sutton was shown on nearby surveillance footage to have been shoved to the ground during a physical altercation, causing fatal injuries.
A judicial commissioner set Jones’ bond at $40,000.
