Detectives are on the lookout for Dandre Pruitt, 23, who is being sought for questioning to help police understand the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of his 3-year-old son, Aydeen Pruitt, Wednesday night.
East Precinct officers responded to the family’s apartment at 2071 Oakwood Avenue at 8:52 p.m. The child had suffered a gunshot wound to his head and was rushed to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
Aydeen’s mother told detectives that she was in the kitchen when she heard a loud pop come from the bedroom. She said shortly afterward, Dandre Pruitt ran out of the room. He reportedly fled the apartment complex with the gun in a white Kia Soul.
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Dandre Pruitt is asked to call 615-862-8600.
The MNPD reminds our community that free gunlocks are available at MNPD headquarters and all eight precincts during regular business hours. Gun owners are urged to safety store their firearms, particularly in households with children.
