The investigation into Wednesday night’s gunfire at a strip shopping center at 7071 Highway 70 South shows that the two involved parties, an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old, shot each other. A potential drug-related motive is under consideration.
The 18-year-old, Gavin R. Dauzart, was fatally wounded. The 17-year-old, Raphael S. Jobehdari, was critically wounded and is being treated at Vanderbilt. He will be interviewed by Homicide detectives as his medical condition improves.
West Precinct officers and paramedics were dispatched to the parking lot at 8:17 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Dauzart shot and lying in the middle of the parking lot. A pistol was next to him. He was transported to Vanderbilt by ambulance where he died a short time later.
Following the shooting, Jobehdari, who was wounded in the abdomen and leg, went to the nearby Kroger store and attempted to conceal a gun. It was recovered.
Dauzart’s and Jobehdari’s vehicles were located at the scene. The continuing investigation leads detectives at this point to believe that drug activity is linked to the gunfire.
