TITANS (The Investigative Team Addressing Neighborhood Shootings) detectives, joined by Homicide investigators, this afternoon arrested Mehvan Abdullah, 25, for Saturday afternoon’s fatal shooting of Brandon Phan, 18, outside the Waffle House at 816 Murfreesboro Pike.
Abdullah was taken into custody without incident at a home on Waller Road in Brentwood. He is facing charges of criminal homicide, felony cocaine possession, and felony marijuana possession.
The investigation, led by Detective Tyler Manivong, shows that Phan and his friend, James Sanders, also 18, were attempting to rob Abdullah of a pound of marijuana when the gunfire occurred. Located in Abdullah’s vehicle, which was left at the scene, was a plastic bag containing approximately four ounces of what appeared to be cocaine.
Sanders, who arrived at the Waffle House parking lot with Phan, was charged over the weekend with attempted aggravated robbery, evidence tampering, using a gun during the commission of a dangerous felony, and unlawful gun possession. Sanders tossed the pistols he and Phan had been carrying into a dumpster prior to police arrival at the shooting scene.
