Detectives working a special assignment to recover stolen vehicles and arrest those responsible this afternoon apprehended a man connected to two stolen automobiles and who was free on a $10,000 bond stemming from a car theft arrest last November.
After spotting a stolen Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in the 400 block of Brookview Estates Drive (it was stolen Monday from Whitsett Road), detectives saw Jose Duran, 27, make repeated visits to the truck. They then saw Duran get into the passenger seat of a Nissan Sentra with a temp tag that was being driven by a woman. The temp tag was listed to a Nissan Murano. Detectives tried to stop the Sentra. It sped away and was monitored from the air by an MNPD helicopter. The Sentra eventually pulled into McMurray Manor Apartments on Nolensville Pike. Duran got out and tried to run away, but was apprehended. A gun was discovered in a backpack Duran was carrying.
The Sentra left the apartment complex and wound up crashing on Nolensville Pike at April Lane. It was stolen from the 100 block of Thompson Lane on Sunday. The driver, Jillian Gibson, 28, was arrested. Inside the Sentra were a gun, a catalytic converter and burglary tools.
Duran is now jailed in lieu of $60,000 bond on two counts of auto theft, possession of burglary tools, unlawful gun possession, resisting arrest, evading arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Gibson’s charges include felony reckless endangerment, auto theft, felony evading arrest, unlawful gun possession, driving on suspended license, and misdemeanor meth possession.
