Continued, persistent investigation by Special Victims Division detectives resulted in the identification and today’s arrest of attempted rape and kidnapping suspect Eric McLean, 27, for the February 3 attack against a 30-year-old woman in the 400 block of 11th Avenue North.
Detectives obtained surveillance video showing the suspect attempting to drag the victim into a small alleyway inside a 11th Avenue North garage. The victim had been walking to her residence at 1:45 a.m. when the suspect grabbed her from behind and knocked her to the ground. He attempted to remove her clothing. She screamed and fought back. When a witness began yelling nearby, the suspect walked off as if nothing had happened.
On Monday, Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers and MNPD Central Precinct officers located McLean on foot downtown. He generally matched the suspect description and refused to speak with detectives. Today, detectives obtained additional surveillance video from a downtown business on 2nd Avenue North which clearly showed McLean enter the location on the same day as the attack wearing clothing matching the suspect’s clothing.
McLean is charged with attempted rape, aggravated kidnapping and attempted kidnapping. He is being held in lieu of $140,000 bond.
