Update: The child in this case died this evening. Detectives will be discussing charge modifications with the District Attorney’s Office.
Youth Services detectives have charged a Nashville father with aggravated child abuse after his five-month-old daughter was diagnosed with bleeding on the brain, retinal hemorrhages and a broken leg. The baby girl is in critical life-threatening condition.
Ryan Sosa, 33, is presently jailed in lieu of $100,000 bond.
Hermitage Precinct officers responded to the family residence on Dodson Chapel Road Monday night concerning an unresponsive child. Officer Alexandra Foote began CPR and was able to resuscitate the baby, who was transported by ambulance to the Children’s Hospital at TriStar Centennial Medical Center. Tests led to the discovery of the internal injuries.
Sosa told detectives that he was home with his daughter while her mother was at work. He said she may have been hurt by falling off a bed. Medical staff reported that the injuries are consistent with non-accidental trauma.
