A pedestrian has died following a crash with an SUV on I-65 North south of downtown Thursday night. Joshua Thomas Taylor, 32, was traveling with his family on I-65 south earlier in the evening when his child threw a favorite toy out of the window.
Taylor went back just before 9 p.m. to look for the toy. He parked his car at the Harding Place ramp and walked along the interstate. Tennessee Department of Transportation HELP truck drivers found Taylor and tried to talk with him. Taylor ran across the interstate and jumped over the jersey barrier to the northbound side. Tennessee Department of Transportation HELP truck drivers immediately began traveling to the opposite side of the interstate when they heard the collision.
Taylor was struck by a GMC Yukon and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Yukon stayed at the scene and did not display any indications of impairment. Speed does not appear to be a factor.
The Nashville Police Department reminds all that it is illegal and inherently dangerous to walk on the interstate.
