Outstanding, ongoing investigation by Violent Crimes Division and East Precinct detectives resulted in Tuesday’s arrest of three teens for their suspected involvement in five East Nashville robbery cases from Monday night and last Wednesday.
The teens were located driving a Mercedes sedan that had been taken in a carjacking on Forrest Avenue Monday night. They drove to Cayce Homes where they then got into a Hyundai Tucson that was taken during a carjacking on N. 2nd Street last Wednesday. With assistance from a police helicopter, detectives continued surveillance of the Hyundai as it drove around for a few minutes, possibly looking for more victims. The teens saw a marked police vehicle as it happened to drive nearby and fled the area. They returned to where the Mercedes was parked. As the suspects were trying to get back into the Mercedes, detectives moved in. All four suspects fled on foot. With continued assistance from the police helicopter, detectives apprehended all four occupants.
Kelando Venoy, 17, admitted to driving both the Mercedes and Hyundai SUV. He was in possession of burglary tools, a skeleton/skull mask, and a gray zip-up hoodie. Venoy is charged in Juvenile Court with two counts of carjacking (Mercedes & Hyundai SUV) and aggravated robbery for Monday night’s hold-up outside Lipstick Lounge.
Brent Nixon, 17, admitted that last Wednesday he fled from the stolen Kia Rio involved the robbery outside the Woodland Street post office. The victim’s stolen property was recovered from the Rio. He is charged in Juvenile Court with aggravated robbery.
A 16-year-old male was charged with two counts of vehicle theft and evading arrest.
The fourth occupant of the SUV, a 15-year-old female, was not charged.
The investigation continues with additional charges pending.
