Mark Woodfin
Sergeant, Emergency Contingency UnitSergeant Woodfin joined Metro Nashville Police Department at a lateral transfer officer in 2002. Sergeant Woodfin began his career in law enforcement in 1990 after completing the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy. Sergeant Woodfin worked as a Deputy Sheriff at the Robertson County Sheriff’s Department prior joining the MNPD.
Since joining MNPD, Sergeant Woodfin has worked in various positions from DUI Enforcement Unit, a Precinct Detective, Patrol Supervisor, and the supervisor over the MNPD Motorcycle Unit. Sergeant Woodfin has completed dozens of specialized classes throughout his career including Northwestern University Police Motorcycle Instructor, Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor, Firearms Instructor School, N.H.T.S.A. Drug Recognition Expert, Traffic Crash Reconstruction School, and Northwestern University Center of Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command.
Sergeant Woodfin’s new role is the supervisor over the Emergency Contingency Unit (ECU) and the Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR). ECU’s responsibilities are both challenging and rewarding. As Homeland Security Liaison, Sergeant Woodfin meets with several departments and organizations throughout the state regularly. ECU is also responsible for investigations that involve biological and radiological materials. ECU members have to become Hazardous Material Technicians and Haz-Mat Specialist. ECU also is in charge of marine responses involving law enforcement or rescue activities on all lakes and rivers in Davidson County. All of these responsibilities require multiple education and certifications course to maintain.
Sergeant Woodfin holds a bachelor degree from Bethel University and is very involved in his home community by serving as a Volunteer Firefighter / Emergency Medical Responder.
