Residential Parking Permit
Nashville’s Residential Parking Permit Program is designed to provide residents with a better quality of life in their neighborhoods by issuing parking permits for residents and their visitors. The issuance of these permits helps ease the impacts of non-resident parking in neighborhoods along streets where space is limited and may be adjacent to commercial properties.
Apply for a Residential Parking Permit Upon Approval
If you are a current resident on a participating street in the program, you can obtain individual permits for your household and visitors.
Apply for an approved permit or renew existing permits
A permit is issued once the completed application and annual permit fee is received by the Nashville Department of Transportation. The annual visitor permit fee is $5 and will only be issued to an existing permit holder.
Submit Your Street for Residential Permit Parking
To add residential street parking to your street block, all residents desiring a permit must complete the Residential Parking Permit Petition Form. The completed petition should be submitted to the district council member, who will then submit it to the Nashville Department of Transportation.
The staff will review the location and if recommended, the request will be submitted to the Metro Traffic and Parking Commission for final approval. Upon approval all residents who signed the petition will receive a permit application which further explains the procedures.

Green Parking Permit
Drivers who own clean technology vehicles, including hybrid vehicles that use both electric and gasoline engines for power, or non-hybrid vehicles that get very high gas mileage and have very low exhaust emissions are allowed free parking at meters in the downtown Central Business District.
The Davidson County Clerk’s office will provide Green Parking Permits to private passenger vehicles after an annual fee of $10 is paid. The permits are valid for a period of one year and shall be issued at the time the motor vehicle is registered.
Residents with Green Parking permits must adhere to all parking laws, including properly parking in metered spaces and parking no longer than meter limits. Green Parking permits are tied to vehicle VIN numbers and cannot be shared with another vehicle.
