Chief Steve Anderson this evening announced the promotion of Lieutenant Blaine Whited to the rank of captain effective February 1st to oversee management and deployment of the MNPD’s body-worn & in-car camera systems.
This position is seen as a best practice among major cities and was recommended today by a group of national body camera experts visiting Nashville. It places a ranking police department supervisor over the non-technical aspects of the camera program, to include training, system evaluation, inventory management and auditing procedures.
“Many Nashvillians are familiar with Blaine Whited through his leadership of the Juvenile Crime Task Force over the past two years,” Chief Anderson said. “His attention to detail and his ability to closely interact with others both inside and outside of the police department make him a clear choice for this new position.”
Whited is a 13-year MNPD veteran. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Bethel University.
The MNPD expects to deploy the first body-worn and in-car camera systems to Traffic Unit officers in March.
