Updated: The pedestrian killed in Monday night’s hit and run crash has been identified as Princess Denise Day, 38, of Nashville.
The Police Department’s Crash Investigations Unit this afternoon charged the suspected driver in Monday night’s fatal hit and run collision at the intersection of Dr. D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard and Wheless Street.
Lavan Strickland, 58, was issued misdemeanor citations charging him with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, failure to report an accident with injuries or death, failure to yield resulting in death, and failure to give information/render aid.
The 2005 white Suzuki SUV that Strickland admitted to driving Monday night is the vehicle believed to have struck and fatally injured an unidentified woman who was crossing the street inside of a crosswalk at 10:30 p.m. A witness described the vehicle that fled as a small white SUV with a spare tire attached to the rear.
Crash investigators located the Suzuki this morning on 16th Avenue North near Wheless Street. It appeared to have recently been involved in a collision. Strickland, of 16th Avenue North, approached officers at the recovery scene. He acknowledged driving the SUV Monday night, but said he did not recall hitting anything.
The investigation is continuing.
