Samuel Ramirez-Camacho, 36, was booked in over the weekend on an outstanding vehicular homicide warrant for the October 18 multi-vehicle crash in the 3800 block of Old Hickory Boulevard that resulted in the February death of Margaret Opelt, 76.
The investigation shows that at 2:30 p.m. a Honda CRV, driven by Opelt, was struck as it was pulling out of a driveway by a northbound Chevrolet Silverado driven by Ramirez-Camacho. The Silverado is believed to have been drag racing with a Ford F-250 at the time of the crash.
The impact caused the F-250 to also be struck, forcing it off the roadway before it struck a broken NES pole and continued into a nearby parking lot where it collided with two parked vehicles.
Opelt was transported to Skyline Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The Traffic Unit was notified of her death on February 6 from injuries she sustained in the crash.
Ramirez-Camacho was found to have been traveling at 75 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour speed zone at the time it struck Opelt’s CRV. Ramirez-Camacho was arrested immediately after the crash for aggravated assault, altered temporary tag and two counts of reckless endangerment.
Upon learning of Opelt’s death, a vehicular homicide warrant was issued against Ramirez-Camacho, who was taken into custody in Wilson County. He remains jailed today on $75,000 bond. Additional charges in this fatal crash are anticipated.
