The father of Melanie Mozqueda, the 14-year-old killed in an ATV crash on May 11, was taken into custody today on six warrants related to her death. Victor Mozqueda, 40, was hosting Melanie’s birthday party at his home when he allowed her and another 14-year-old to ride the ATV on a public street without supervision or helmets.
The ATV struck the driver’s side of a Jeep Patriot on Darbytown Drive. Melanie, the passenger at the time of the collision, was transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where she died the following day.
Mozqueda was charged with criminally negligent homicide involving a minor, two counts of reckless endangerment by motor vehicle, two counts of aggravated child abuse, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
