Update: The 18-year-old victim is identified as Reginald Smart, who was living with Camron McGlothen.
Homicide Unit detectives are pursuing leads as they work to determine why two young men, ages 18 and 17, were targeted for fatal gunfire late Saturday afternoon while standing near the breezeway of a building at Hermitage Flats Apartments on Old Hickory Boulevard. The 17-year-old deceased is identified as Camron McGlothen, who lived in the complex with the 18-year-old. Efforts are continuing to locate his next of kin.
Hermitage Precinct officers responded to the complex at 4:45 p.m. Saturday. McGlothen and the 18-year-old were lying on the ground unresponsive. The 18-year-old died at the scene. McGlothen died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt. Both were shot multiple times.
Detectives believe that three suspects were involved. One of them was wearing a ski mask when the victims were approached. The suspects fled from the apartment complex after the victims were down.
