More than 10,000 persons involved in non-injury fender-bender type vehicle crashes took advantage of MNPD on-line reporting during calendar year 2024. Accident self-reporting last year is estimated to have saved 15,078 officer hours, allowing patrol teams to address more pressing issues in our community. The on-line option for crash reports has been available since August 2022.
Nearly 4,800 additional persons used the on-line option to report minor offenses that did not immediately require an in-person police officer, such as lost property, thefts from a yard or shed, shoplifting, and harassing telephone calls. Those reports are referred to investigative components for follow up. The on-line option for minor offenses, which began in December 2023, is estimated to have saved 7,185 patrol officer hours last year, allowing them to deal with more pressing calls.
