The MNPD strongly encourages Nashvillians to lock their automobile doors, secure any valuables—especially guns, and remove the keys.
So far this year, 900 guns have been stolen from vehicles in Nashville, 22 were taken from autos just last week. The total number of guns stolen this year in Davidson County is 1,226, which means that 73% of guns stolen so far in 2024 have been taken from automobiles.
Fewer guns have been stolen from vehicles so far in 2023. At this same time last year, 1,189 guns had been taken from vehicles.
MNPD’s special initiative to combat vehicle theft and related crimes, begun on February 1st, has resulted in 1,009 arrests and the recoveries of 540 stolen vehicles and 224 guns.
Just like guns taken from vehicles, stolen autos are routinely involved in criminal activities, including carjackings and robberies.
