Specialized Investigations Division detectives this afternoon arrested Demarius Claybrooks Jr., 23, on a charge of criminal homicide for gunfire September 26 on Lewis Street that wounded a 23-year-old woman in her 8th month of pregnancy. She survived. Her unborn daughter did not.
Investigation by Youth Services Division Detective Chris Beery led to the identification of Claybrooks as the suspected shooter.
Claybrooks is alleged to have fired a pistol at a car after a rear seat passenger got out, discharged bear spray at a crowd of people, and then got back inside. The shooting victim was the front seat passenger and was wounded in the abdomen.
The spraying of the bear mace is believed to be related to an on-going dispute between several females in the area.
