Specialized Investigations Division detectives late Thursday afternoon arrested convicted felon and federal probationer Dwight L. Mason Jr., 25, on a number of felony counts related to his alleged firing of a gun at a McDonald’s drive thru on Saturday, March 16.
Mason is jailed in lieu of $385,000 bond on charges of attempted criminal homicide, four counts of aggravated assault, gun possession in the commission of a dangerous felony, and felony vandalism.
The investigation shows that Mason was the rear seat passenger in a car the occupants of which had placed an order at the Dickerson Pike McDonald’s drive thru. The wrong amount was charged, and the people in the car complained about it to a 17-year-old McDonald’s employee working at the drive thru window. As the staff attempted to address the issue, the rear car window came down and a man subsequently identified as Mason pulled a pistol. The 17-year-old at the window drew a gun from his waistband and both parties fired. Mason is alleged to have fired at least three rounds. The teen fired once, was critically wounded, had surgery, and has since been released from the hospital.
Arrest warrants were issued against Mason earlier this month. Specialized Investigations Division detectives located him Thursday on Charles E. Davis Boulevard.
