Homicide Unit detectives are working active leads in Sunday night’s apparent drug-related fatal shooting of a Memphis man in a parking lot on Hamilton Crossings Road. London Montgomery, 23, was found with gunshot wounds in the driver’s seat of a stolen Mercedes SUV after it crashed into a retaining wall.
The investigation to this point shows that Montgomery arrived in the Mercedes just before 10 p.m. and backed into a parking space next to a Jeep Grand Cherokee. One suspect got out of the Jeep and entered the Mercedes briefly. A short time later, another suspect got out of the Jeep and approached the Mercedes in what appeared to be a robbery attempt. As Montgomery began to drive off, one of the suspects fired several rounds, striking him. He continued a short distance before crashing the Mercedes into a retaining wall. Montgomery was transported to a local hospital where he died. The suspects fled the area in the Jeep.
