A female pedestrian has died following Sunday's 10 p.m. crash involving a Toyota Corolla at the I-40 East exit ramp to Old Hickory Boulevard and Central Pike. The preliminary investigation indicates a black Chevrolet 1500 wrecked on the exit ramp overpass and became disabled, partially blocking the right lane.
Another vehicle stopped to help the driver of the Chevrolet. The female passenger of that vehicle, Arbadellia Richardson, 64, of Old Hickory, was attempting to warn oncoming traffic with her phone flashlight when she was struck while between the vehicles by the oncoming Toyota.
Richardson died at the scene.
The 25-year-old driver of the Toyota was transported to Summit Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. He stated by the time he saw the disabled Chevrolet and Richardson, he was unable to avoid the collision. There were no signs of impairment at the scene.
