Registered sex offender Jerru Wells, 31, is back behind bars after he broke into a 70-year-old woman’s South Nashville apartment this morning while she was sleeping. She awoke to find him by her bedside, pulling at her nightgown. She began talking to him, distracted him, and eventually convinced him to leave.
Investigation by Special Victims Division detectives led to the identification of Wells who was taken into custody this afternoon. Wells faces attempted rape and aggravated burglary charges. He is also charged with two sex offender registry violations.
In 2015, Wells was convicted of sexual battery in Hamblen County. He registered as a sex offender in Nashville in 2018. Wells also has prior convictions for aggravated burglary and aggravated assault in Hamblen County.
