Update: Sumner County Thursday night led to Myron Hughes’ arrest in Portland, Tennessee, by Sumner County authorities. He was returned to Nashville and is presently jailed in lieu of $76,000 bond on two counts of aggravated robbery.
Arrest warrants charging two counts of aggravated robbery have been issued against rideshare driver Myron K. Hughes, 44, who is accused of robbing two women at gunpoint as he transported them early Sunday from downtown Nashville to a residence in Nolensville, Tennessee.
Efforts to locate Hughes have been unsuccessful thus far. Anyone seeing him or knowing his whereabouts is asked to contact Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
The investigation, being led by Robbery Unit Detective Thomas Barnes, shows that the two victims, ages 22 and 24, requested an Uber driven by a female to pick them up on Broadway for the ride home. When the car pulled up, the make and model of the vehicle (a Kia Forte) and the license plate matched what they had been sent by Uber. However, a man subsequently identified by the victims through a photo lineup as Hughes was behind the wheel, not the female driver given in the Uber information. The victims said that Hughes told them that the female they were expecting was out due to illness. Having verified the license number sent to them, they got into the car.
As Hughes drove outbound on Nolensville Pike in the area of Yelton Drive, he claimed to be lost and pulled onto a side street. The victims said he then showed a pistol, demanded that they get out of the car and leave all their belongings behind. Hughes then drove off. The victims approached a person in the parking lot of a Nolensville Pike business who called police.
The victims’ cell phones were recovered later Sunday morning on Southlake Drive, where they had apparently been thrown from the car.
The MNPD urges everyone to be self-aware when using a rideshare service. All details provided by the company should match, including the car make/model, license plate, and driver information. If there are concerns, forego the ride from that particular vehicle.
