Convicted felon Ladon Ervin, 41, is back behind bars, his third arrest this year, in relation to the November 22 shootout at Dirty Car carwash, 519 Bell Road, that injured an innocent bystander.
Officers responded to the car wash where witnesses reported that two men had exchanged gunfire before fleeing the scene in their respective vehicles. Detectives reviewed surveillance video from the car wash which showed Ervin exiting his Jeep Grand Cherokee and confronting a second man. Ervin punched him and then very quickly removed a handgun from his person and fired into the ground at the other man's feet. That man then removed a handgun from his person and the two men fired at each other. Detectives continue to work to identify the second gunman (victim).
Ervin drove himself to Southern Hills Medical Center with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. A handgun and ammunition were recovered from his vehicle.
Approximately one quarter mile from the car wash, a man was struck in the ear by shrapnel. He had been walking on the sidewalk immediately outside Extreme Cuts Barber Shop, 476 Bell Road, when he heard a loud bang and at the same time realized he had a graze wound to his ear. A projectile fragment was located in the immediate vicinity from where he was standing. He refused transport to a hospital.
Upon Ervin's release from the hospital late Tuesday, he was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and felon in possession of a weapon. He is being held in lieu of $190,000 bond.
Ervin was arrested in July and charged with aggravated assault for an April altercation at TNT's Billiards Bar and Grill on Bell Road after security refused him access due to him not having ID. He was free on $50,000 bond in that incident and prior to this arrest, he was free on $14,000 bond from a February arrest for DUI and felon in possession of a weapon.
Ervin is a registered ex-con for weapons/drug offenses.
