Update: The scooter rider killed Monday night by a hit and run driver on Old Hickory Boulevard near Firestone Parkway has been identified as Charles A. Fountain, 65, of Jacksonville, Florida. Officers determined that Fountain was an over-the-road truck driver who had parked his tractor-trailer at the TA Truck Stop. He had ridden his scooter to a nearby Dollar General Store and was headed back to the truck stop when he was hit by a dark, possibly black, Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. The pickup truck dragged the scooter for more than 900 feet before it became dislodged. It fled on Old Hickory Boulevard toward Murfreesboro Pike. Officers across Nashville and the surrounding area are on the lookout for the dark, possibly black, Toyota Tacoma pickup truck involved in Monday night's fatal hit and run crash on Old Hickory Boulevard near Firestone Parkway in South Nashville that killed the rider of a personally owned electric scooter. The male victim has not yet been positively identified.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was hit on Old Hickory Boulevard near the I-24 interchange shortly before 7 p.m. and became trapped under the pickup truck. Witnesses reported seeing sparks coming from underneath the truck as it dragged the scooter more than 900 feet near to Firestone Parkway. Once the victim and the scooter became dislodged, the truck fled on Old Hickory Boulevard toward Murfreesboro Pike.
It is presently believed that the victim had pulled out of a nearby Dollar General Store parking lot after shopping, drove along the shoulder of Old Hickory Boulevard, and attempted to cross to the other side of the roadway when he was hit.
