Homicide Unit detectives tonight are charging Demontrez Williams and Kevonte Lane, both 17, with criminal homicide and especially aggravated robbery in connection with the February 28 murder of Charles Andrew Rooks, 23, inside a car at 140 Dellway Drive.
The investigation, led by Detective Cyretha Frazier, shows that the motive was likely related to the robbery of a gun possessed by Rooks.
Williams was arrested today by Homicide and TITANS (The Investigative Team Addressing Neighborhood Shootings) detectives at his residence. At the time of the murder, Williams was wearing a state-issued ankle monitor in relation to his arrest last year on aggravated robbery and unlawful gun possession charges.
Lane was taken into custody on March 1 by TITANS detectives on I-24 in Rutherford County with assistance from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. Lane was charged on March 1 with unlawful gun possession and probation violation. He has remained in custody.
