A year-long investigation into the November 2022 death of 23-month-old Ariel Rose has led to today’s arrest of the two people she was staying with when she overdosed on fentanyl. Melissa Sutton, 46, and Jesse Mashburn, 36, were indicted on 1st degree murder charges by a grand jury.
The painstaking investigation, led by Youth Services Detective John Grubbs, revealed that Sutton and Mashburn were caring for Rose at a residence on 25th Avenue North when she was found unresponsive. Neither was her legal guardian.
The pair was arrested this afternoon at a Hermitage apartment complex.
Both Sutton and Mashburn are being held on $100,000 bonds.
