Specialized Investigations Division detectives are working to identify the gunman who Saturday at 8:30 p.m. fired shots from a sedan into another vehicle, wounding two 17-year-old females who were backseat passengers. Both vehicles were traveling on Bell Road near Woodland Pointe Drive when the shooting occurred.
The driver, age 18, and her female front seat passenger, age 17, were not struck. They took the victims to what they thought was the nearest hospital, the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at 3901 Central Pike, where they called 911. Medics arrived and transported the injured teens to TriStar Skyline Medical Center. One of the teens was struck in the shoulder and has non-critical injuries. The second teen was struck one time and sustained serious injuries.
The teens reported that they were on their way to the Wilson County Fair when they saw the suspect car driving erratically. They said that their vehicle and the suspect car passed each other a few times prior to shots being fired.
Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
