Update: The victim has been identified as Roberto Castro, 55, of Madison.
The man struck and killed by a CSX freight train in East Nashville late Saturday night has been identified as a 55-year-old. MNPD chaplains are working to notify his family.
Officers were dispatched to the railroad tracks one half mile north of the McGavock Pike crossing at 9:30 p.m. The engineer reported the train was moving at approximately 30 mph around a curve when he noticed a shadow on the tracks between the rails. He realized the shadow was a person wearing dark clothing lying on the tracks. The train could not stop before making impact. There were no signs of foul play. The investigation into why the victim was on the tracks is continuing.
