The wrong-way driver in the August 27 fatal crash on I-65 north just prior to the Briley Parkway/Dickerson Pike exits is now charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication.
Shakiyla Smith, 27, was driving a Chevrolet Equinox south in the northbound lanes of I-65 when she collided head-on with a Hyundai Elantra driven by Madeline Rutledge, 24.
Rutledge died shortly after arriving at Skyline Medical Center. Smith was critically injured. Toxicology testing was conducted on Smith. Her blood alcohol content was measured at .13%.
Smith remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bond.
