The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) has made all preparations to treat Metro Nashville roadways in the event of winter weather this season. The department will be monitoring weather forecasts closely this week as plummeting temperatures and possible frozen precipitation are in the forecast for Thursday evening. Crews will be on standby to begin treating roads if needed.
Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) winter weather response by the numbers:
- 40,000 gallons of brine on hand
- 20,000 gallons of calcium chloride on hand
- 9,000 tons of salt on hand
- 32 salt trucks/snow plows
- 28 primary snow removal routes
- 28 secondary snow removal routes
“Our crews are on standby, our supplies are stocked, and we’re ready to respond to any ice or snow that may fall this week or this winter,” said Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) Director Diana Alarcon. “Making roads passable and keeping people safe is our number one priority in a winter weather event, and we’re committed to working around the clock to make that happen.”
In the event of a snow or ice event, Nashvillians are encouraged to stay off roadways and let both Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) crews work to make roads passable. If someone must travel on roadways, leave plenty of room between vehicles, drive slowly, and remain alert.
