The MNPD strongly encourages Nashvillians to start the new year off right by locking their automobile doors, securing any valuables—especially guns, and removing the keys.
So far this month, 37 guns have been stolen from vehicles in Nashville, 16 were taken from autos just last week.
MNPD's special initiative to combat vehicle theft and related crimes, begun last February, has resulted in 1,042 arrests and the recoveries of 565 stolen vehicles and 235 guns.
Just like guns taken from vehicles, stolen autos are routinely involved in criminal activities, including carjackings and robberies.
