Homicide Unit detectives are investigating an apparent attempted murder-suicide involving gunfire inside a residence in the 2100 block of Burns Street.
Officers responded Tuesday at 7:20 a.m. to shots fired. They found two men, step-brothers, with gunshot wounds. The preliminary investigation shows that Carson Denny, 38, arrived at the residence of his step brother, Chandler Barnes, 27, in a rented pickup truck. Chandler’s fiancé left the residence to go to work and was approached by Denny who was armed with a gun and demanded to go inside. Once inside he shot Barnes and then returned to the pickup truck. As Barnes’ fiancé got him out of the residence so she could take him to the hospital, Denny returned and again fired at Barnes, striking him multiple times. Denny returned to the pickup where he turned the gun on himself. He died at the scene. A nine-millimeter pistol was recovered in his lap.
Barnes was transported to Skyline Medical Center where he is in stable condition.
The brothers had reportedly not seen each other for approximately three years and there were no known issues between the two prior to this morning. Denny’s motive for the attempted murder remains under investigation.
