John Bond Sr., 33, is charged with criminal homicide for fatally stabbing his uncle, Dwight Bond, 61, inside his uncle’s 15th Avenue North apartment and two counts of attempted murder for attacking his parents early Saturday morning inside their Kings Lane home.
John Bond forced entry into his parent’s Kings Lane home at 1:45 a.m. and a violent struggle ensued. Elaine Bond ran to a neighbor’s house for help after she was cut on the arm. Joseph Bond, 68, who sustained multiple wounds to his chest and both arms, retrieved a 22-caliber revolver and fired, striking his son. John Bond continued to struggle with his father for control of the gun. Joseph Bond then managed to pin his son down until police arrived and took him into custody.
Joseph Bond told officers that during the fight, his son had told him that he had killed his brother, Dwight. Officers responded to Dwight Bond’s apartment where they found him deceased. The rear door to the apartment had been forced open. Dwight Bond’s car was missing. It was located parked behind Joseph and Elaine Bond’s Kings Lane home. Their son was in possession of the keys to his uncle’s vehicle.
John Bond was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was treated prior to booking. He refused to talk to detectives. His parents were transported to Skyline Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Joseph and Elaine Bond, 67, reported that they had recently made their son move out and had changed the locks.
John Bond was convicted of aggravated assault following a December 2016 incident in which he threatened his parents at gunpoint at their Kings Lane residence. They both fled. When officers arrived, he barricaded himself inside. After a standoff, he was taken into custody. Most recently, he was charged with vehicle theft in February after he took his mother’s SUV. He was convicted of joy riding and placed on probation.
