Devonte Williams, 24, is jailed on charges of aggravated assault and two counts of reckless endangerment for shooting one man and putting two others at risk of being shot in the area of 15th Avenue North and Church Street at 4:20 a.m. today.
Officers from the Central and Midtown Hills Precincts quickly responded and saw a man (Williams) who matched the description of the shooter at 14th Avenue North and Broadway. Williams was carrying a pistol when officers spotted him. It was recovered on the ground next to him as Williams was taken into custody.
The investigation, being led by Detective Kevin Reynolds, shows that Williams had been at the Déjà Vu club. He got into an argument with a friend, who left Williams outside the location. While walking away from the intersection of 15th Avenue North and Church Street, Williams turned and started shooting a pistol. A 50-year-old man standing outside the club was hit in the shoulder by a bullet (non-life threatening injury). Two other men standing outside were not hurt. Williams told Detective Reynolds that he opened fire after becoming angry that his friend left him.
A judicial commissioner set bond for Williams at $80,000.
