In a direct response to neighborhood complaints about suspected drug dealing at a home located at 2836 Clifton Avenue, Specialized Investigations Division detectives, with the assistance of SWAT officers, raided that place and then searched a house next door on Wednesday, seizing pounds of cocaine, marijuana, guns and cash.
Surveillance on the home after the complaints came in showed constant foot and vehicle traffic coming to and leaving the residence. The investigation revealed that the resident, convicted felon Leonard Talley, 64, was dealing drugs through the front door. Talley was home when detectives arrived Wednesday and was taken into custody without incident. Seized from the house were 4.5 pounds of cocaine, including one bag that also tested positive for fentanyl, 5 ounces of crack cocaine, 1.3 pounds of marijuana, a pistol that was reported stolen out of Clarksville, and $4,039 cash.
During Wednesday’s operation, it was discovered that Talley was paying the utility bills and had the keys for a neighboring home at 2834 Clifton Avenue. Seized from that residence were an AR-15 rifle that was stolen during a 2020 Nashville vehicle burglary, a Glock pistol, a shotgun, another rifle, a ballistic vest and $5,386 cash.
Talley today is being held in lieu of $326,000 bond on felony cocaine, marijuana, fentanyl and gun charges.
Talley was convicted of a felony cocaine offense in 2014 and received a mostly probated 8-year sentence. He was convicted of a felony marijuana offense in 2011 and received a 1-year sentence. He was convicted of gun possession by a convicted felon in 2013 and received a mostly suspended 2-year sentence.
The MNPD is grateful to members of the community who, through their alert observations and reporting of the activities on Clifton Avenue, helped shutdown an active illegal drug operation in their neighborhood.
