A Street Racer Initiative overnight resulted in the arrest of two men who both fled from police during apparent car meetups.
Joshua Gongora, 27, of San Benito, Texas, was seen at Blue Hole Road and Bell Road lighting fireworks in the middle of the roadway after approximately 50 cars took over the intersection. South Precinct officers responded and as they attempted to take Gongora into custody, he began running, trying to escape into nearby vehicles.
As Gongora was apprehended, officers recovered marijuana and fireworks in his pockets. He was charged with inciting a riot, evading arrest, resisting arrest, drug possession, disorderly conduct and obstructing a passageway. He remains jailed this morning on $11,000 bond.
Early this morning officers were also called to Lebanon Pike near Shute Lane for vehicles doing donuts in a parking lot. As officers approached the area, they attempted to stop a Nissan 370 which fled at a high rate of speed. With assistance from MNPD Aviation, the Nissan was spotted on Old Hickory Boulevard where it fled from a second attempted traffic stop.
The Nissan was disabled at Dodson Chapel Road where the driver, Oniel Alvarado-Munguia, 22, was taken into custody.
Alvarado-Munguia was charged with not having a driver’s license and two counts of evading arrest. He is free on $32,000 bond this morning.
