Coordinated police work between Madison Precinct patrol officers, Violent Crimes Division detectives, and an MNPD helicopter led to Monday’s arrest of two male teens, ages 14 and 15, a short time after they robbed a man who was walking toward Parkwood Community Center.
The victim reported that the two approached him armed with a handgun that they passed between each other while demanding his belongings. The teens fled with his iPhone, Apple watch, and mesh Nike backpack.
Patrol officers responded to the area and established a perimeter around where the victim’s stolen iPhone was located on Lauren Evelyn Way. Investigation by detectives and officers, with assistance from Aviation, resulted in both teens being apprehended at a Lauren Evelyn Way residence. They were positively identified as the robbers.
Recovered from the house were the victim’s iPhone and a stolen handgun that had been taken from a vehicle on Chesapeake Drive earlier this month. Ammunition and a black mask were also recovered. During an interview, one of the teens said he committed the robbery to buy Fortnite character skins.
Both teens are charged in Juvenile Court with robbery, juvenile handgun possession, and loitering during school hours.
