Specialized Investigations Division detectives continuing efforts to proactively engage in precision policing led to Thursday’s arrest of Desmond Jones, 29, who was wanted on five outstanding warrants for aggravated assault, felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of reckless endangerment, and domestic assault.
Detectives located Jones driving a Nissan Rogue in the area of Dickerson Pike and Old Hickory Boulevard. When he stopped at a convenience store, they saw Jones involved in what appeared to be a hand-to-hand narcotics transaction. They attempted to stop him as he left the parking lot but he fled. Officers successfully deployed spike strips and Jones was taken into custody.
Four of the outstanding warrants were related to the April 27 gunfire in the 700 block of Rowan Drive in which a residence was targeted. No one was struck. The domestic assault charge stems from a May 23 incident involving Jones and an ex-girlfriend.
At the time of his arrest Thursday, Jones was free on $75,500 bond for his August 2023 arrest for felony drug possession (including fentanyl), felon in possession of a firearm, and evading arrest. In addition to the outstanding warrants served yesterday, Jones is charged with felony evading arrest and driving on a suspended license. He is now being held in lieu of $194,500 bond.
