James E. Johnson, 20, will be charged with attempted homicide for a February 14, 2023, shooting incident in which he allegedly fired shots into another vehicle occupied by two persons on I-40 West after a collision on Donelson Pike.
Following the collision on Donelson Pike, both vehicles pulled into a convenience store where the 31-year-old male passenger and Johnson got into a physical fight. The passenger got into a Hyundai Santa Fe and he and the female driver left the parking lot.
Johnson followed the victims in his SUV onto I-40 where shots were fired into the Hyundai, striking the passenger. Johnson is also accused of using his vehicle to ram the victim’s SUV which crashed on the side of the Interstate. The passenger sustained critical but not life-threatening injuries.
Johnson was arrested last month after he allegedly shot his sister during an argument. He remains jailed on $416,000 bond for that incident. He will also be charged with aggravated assault and gun possession during the commission of a felony for the February 2023 shooting.
