Murder fugitive James Marques Smith, 21, wanted for last May’s fatal shooting of Nicholas Spivey, 20, in the parking lot of Valley Ridge Apartments on Harding Pike is now in custody.
Undercover TITANS (The Investigative Team Addressing Neighborhood Shootings) detectives spotted Smith and Shy’Marie’On Link, 21, inside a vehicle on Main Street. With the assistance of an MNPD helicopter, detectives followed the vehicle until it parked on 17th Avenue North. Smith and Link got out and ran as detectives approached. Both tossed guns in the process. The green pistol Smith discarded was stolen in Chattanooga. The pistol Link threw was modified with a switch that made the gun fully automatic.
Smith is being held without bond on the criminal homicide charge. At the time of his arrest, Link was wanted on an outstanding auto theft warrant in Nashville and felony warrants issued in Sumner County.
